Equine massage therapist Sal Salvetti explains the purpose and proper uses of kinesio tape for horses:
“Kinesio tape has, potentially, a number of different functions, and each goal would require a different application. For example, it can be used just to relieve muscle soreness, tightness and tension. One of the ways it works, is that kinesio tape is a fabric tape with a certain type of adhesive on it which is taped to the body in a certain manner so there’s a certain amount of stretch in the tape, and the beginning and ending of that piece of tape are anchored in specific spots. That tension on the tape will subtlely lift the superficial tissue and allow more blood and lymphatic circulation in a particular area. That’s just one example of how kinesio tape can be used…”
