USEWE’s Doreen Atkinson on how and why working equitation won her over:
“I’ve been riding horses just about all my life, like everybody has that I’ve run into. Well, I went to this show, and saw they had working equitation offered. They had an introduction to it, and a class to enter, and it was right up my alley.
This sport was created by countries that use the horse to work in the field. It kind of combines all my love of the horse, being the dressage, the ease of handling, the obstacles set up to simulate difficulties encountered by a horse and rider, like when you’re on the trail… the speed events, and then the cattle work. It just encompassed everything I’d done with my horses over the years, and I thought this is it, this is the sport!”
