“A rider needs to ask the question, ‘Could it be better? Could the horse be more comfortable?’ There’s a LOT of bits out there, and a lot of gimmicky bits. My ultimate goal is to figure out the conformation of the horse’s mouth, where their sensitivities are, and find the right mouthpiece based on that. If they’re more comfortable, they’re going to want to go to that good place where we want them to go without us having to manufacture so much.
The days are gone of ‘the bit is meant to control the horse’. Little by little, I’m shifting people’s thinking about that. If a horse is more comfortable they’ll want to come to the end of the rein. And that will make it easier for the rider to use their aids.” (Stephanie Brown Beamer on the importance of bit fitting)
