Adaptogens for horses are specific plants and fungi that help the body manage stress. Adaptogens can support regulation of the glandular, endocrine and circulatory systems. These plants and fungi play and important role in maintaining physical and mental homeostasis. Adaptogens can improve stamina and reduce fatigue, while improving focus and concentration. While several plants and mushrooms classified as adaptogens have been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for thousands of years, it was Soviet scientist Dr. Nikolai Lazarev who coined the term “adaptogen” in the 1940s as he was studying the effects of stress. The term is rooted in the Latin adaptare, meaning to fit or adjust.
