Drawing on her own life experience, dressage FEI rider and trainer JJ Tate reveals one important strategy for maintaining a healthy attitude in the face of adversity:
“I’ve always had the feeling that the more you bring something out into the air, you give it less power. I think when we talk about depression or anxiety or fear or regret…whatever those deep emotions are…I feel like we shine a little light on it and lift it up into the breeze, and it will burden you less. That’s definitely how I grew up. [My family] spoke about everything. We’re a very open, sharing family and we all know what’s going on with each other, and we openly discuss stuff. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to make other people feel comfortable to share their vulnerability as well…”
