Co-host Jenn Hebert describes her own version of rider anxiety and the challenge it presents:
“My rider anxiety centers around self-inflicted need for perfection: I’ve gotta get it all right, I can’t make any mistakes. It’s self-induced, and it’s something I’ve only very [recently] started to wrestle with. A lot of people focus on what causes the anxiety — ‘The horse show!’ or ‘My horse is nervous and that causes me to be anxious!’ — but what I had to focus on is where my anxiety was focused. What was my anxiety about? I know what fear feels like, and that wasn’t it. I finally had to realize that the reason I’m anxious is my brain is going 90 miles an hour trying to go through every imaginable scenario, making sure I have every single base covered so that I don’t make any mistakes. It was exhausting!…”
